Administrative History: Set up as a result of the NHS (Scotland) Act of 1947 under the control of the South Eastern Regional Hospital Board and operated until reorganisation in 1974. The following were included: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion, Queen Mary Maternity Home, Corstorphine Hospital, Beechmount Hospital, Chalmers Hospital (from 1970), Edinburgh Dental Hospital and School, Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion (from 1969, incorporating Orthoptic Clinic, School Eye Service and Artificial Eye Fitting Centre, Cambridge Street), Hearing Aid Centre, Cambridge Street, Seamen's Dispensary, Leith, and Child Welfare Clinic, Windsor Street. It became Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Associated Hospitals Unit, and subsequently the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh National Health Service Trust and Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust.
