Important LHSA Accessions in 2009

23 November 2009

We have been very fortunate in the extent and quality of our accessions this year.  To date we have received 24 accessions including the admission registers of St Michael’s Hospital, Linlithgow (Acc 09/011), the staff magazine of the City Hospital from the 1930s and the papers of the Lothian Gay and Lesbian Switchboard (Acc 09/021) which closes in January 2010.

The St Michael’s Hospital admission registers date back to 1859 from the time when the hospital was the poor law institution for the county.  They include such details as the age, religion, occupation and parish of each patient.

The Lothian Gay and Lesbian Switchboard papers date from 1974-2003.  They include the minutes of the organisation as well as newsletters, campaign material and call logs.

The majority of the accessions have come from within the NHS but we have also received some from private individuals and other institutions. If you have any records which relate to the NHS or the history of health in the Lothian region and you would like to donate them to LHSA please Contact Us.
