What's New?Preparations for Royal Edinburgh Hospital's 200th Anniversary21 October 2010 The Royal Edinburgh Hospital celebrates its bicentenary between 2009-1013. In 1809, the foundation stone was laid for the first hospital building at Morningside, and in 1813, the first patient was admitted. In preparation for this anniversary, LHSA has given priority to cataloguing collections relating to the Hospital. Some interesting items have come to light!
These include copies of the patient’s magazine ‘Morningside Mirror’ for years that were previously missing. Some have striking cover artwork as you can see below.
Also catalogued were 125 administration files of the Hospital. At first glance, these aren’t perhaps as interesting as the magazines but they include a wealth of information – from the artist-in-residence project to proposals for Community Mental Health Centres and the opening of the Affleck Centre. |
