Biographical History: In 1832 a dispute arose between Mr. James Syme (1799-1870) and Dr. John Mackintosh, concerning remarks allegedly made by Dr. Mackintosh relating to a female acquaintance of Mr. Syme’s. Dr. Mackintosh printed statements in an attempt to rectify matters.
